What a warmer screen can and cannot demonstrate

Color-temperature software changes relative RGB output and may feel more comfortable to some users at night. It is not a proven treatment for eye disease, and warmer color alone does not replace breaks, sensible lighting, sleep opportunity, or professional care. Evidence for blue-filtering products is limited and intervention-specific. Cochrane review

A sensible first-week setup

  1. Install from the pinned release. Confirm the version and SHA-256 on the Gloam download page before opening the file.
  2. Start gently. Use Focus or Dusk first; an extreme warm setting too early can distort color and feel distracting.
  3. Match the room. Lower excessive display brightness and reduce glare before blaming color temperature for discomfort.
  4. Add breaks. Turn on the break timer, then adjust the interval if the default interrupts important work.
  5. Keep a neutral escape hatch. Use Natural or temporarily disable filtering for photo, video, design, and any task where color accuracy matters.
