Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the GroceryOS iOS application ("the app"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. The service

GroceryOS helps you track grocery purchases, pantry inventory, expiration estimates, budgets, prices, shopping lists, and meal ideas. The app runs on your device and stores your data locally, as described in our Privacy Policy.

2. Important: estimates are not safety guarantees

Expiration dates shown in GroceryOS are estimates, generated from general shelf-life heuristics and your own usage patterns. They are clearly marked as estimates in the app. They are not a substitute for printed expiration dates, your own judgment, or food-safety guidance. Always inspect food before consuming it. GroceryOS is not liable for spoiled food, foodborne illness, or any harm arising from reliance on expiration estimates. Budget forecasts, price statistics, savings scores, and meal suggestions are likewise informational estimates, not professional advice.

3. Subscriptions

• GroceryOS Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription: $5.99–$6.00 USD per month or $59.99 USD per year (prices may vary by region and are shown in the app before purchase).
• Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your device's Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. Deleting the app or deleting your data does not cancel a subscription.
• Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store policies.
• Where applicable, the standard Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.

4. Free tier

The free tier includes a limited number of receipt scans per month and a core feature set. We may adjust free-tier limits and feature availability over time.

5. Your content

You retain all rights to the data you put into GroceryOS (receipts, items, lists, notes). Because data is stored on your device, you are responsible for your device backups. We have no copies and cannot recover data you delete.

6. Optional third-party features

Some optional features rely on third parties — for example, AI meal suggestions using an OpenAI API key you supply, or receipt import from an email provider you connect. Your use of those services is governed by their terms, and any fees for your own API keys are your responsibility. We may add, change, or remove integrations over time.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the app — including reverse-engineering it except as permitted by law, using it to violate others' rights, or attempting to disrupt its operation.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT RECEIPT PARSING, PRICE DATA, OR ESTIMATES WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GROCERYOS AND ITS DEVELOPERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.

10. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time. We may discontinue the app or any feature with reasonable notice where practicable. Sections 2, 5, 8, 9, and 11 survive termination.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction unless applicable law provides otherwise.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, note it in the app's release notes. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
