Terms of Use — Instinct

    The short version: Instinct is an enrichment game for dogs. It's
    not a substitute for walks, training, or vet care, and it isn't a medical or
    behavioural device. Use it the way you'd use any other toy — with attention to your
    dog, on a sturdy surface, and within the bounds of your dog's individual temperament.
    These terms cover the standard legal stuff. If anything's unclear, write us.
  

Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using the Instinct app ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not install or use the App. These Terms are an agreement between you and JTR Labs LLC, an independent software studio in the United States.

License

Subject to these Terms and the Apple App Store's end-user license agreement, JTR Labs grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on devices you own or control. You may not sublicense, resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the App or its assets.

What Instinct is — and what it isn't

Instinct is a screen-based enrichment game designed for dogs to engage with under human supervision. It is not:

a substitute for daily walks, social interaction, training, or veterinary care;
a diagnostic tool for any medical or behavioural condition;
guaranteed to be of interest to every dog — engagement varies by breed, drive, age, and individual temperament;
safe for unattended use, particularly with young, anxious, or high-arousal dogs.

Safe play guidelines

Please use Instinct responsibly:

Always supervise play. Some dogs may try to bite, scratch, or pounce on the screen.
Place the device on a sturdy, non-slip surface a few inches from your dog's reach. A tablet on a low stand or behind tempered glass is safer than a phone in your hand.
Limit sessions. Short sessions (five to fifteen minutes) preserve novelty and prevent overarousal. The App's design supports short sessions for this reason.
Stop play if your dog becomes overaroused, frustrated, or fixated. Not every dog enjoys screens — that's normal.
Keep the device protected. Drool, paws, and biting can damage screens. JTR Labs is not responsible for device damage caused by use of the App.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the App's source code;
remove or alter copyright notices, trademarks, or attributions in the App;
use the App in any way that violates applicable law;
use the App in any commercial setting (e.g., paid pet care, training classes) without prior written permission from JTR Labs.

In-app purchases & subscriptions

Instinct may offer optional in-app purchases or subscriptions. All transactions are processed by Apple through the App Store under Apple's terms. JTR Labs cannot directly issue refunds; refund requests should be made to Apple Support. Pricing and benefits are described inside the App at the time of purchase.

Intellectual property

The App — including its source code, design, illustrations, soundscapes, breed profiles, and brand — is owned by JTR Labs LLC and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.

No warranty

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind — express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the App will entertain or benefit your dog. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that issues will be fixed on any particular timeline.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, JTR Labs LLC and its personnel are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including damages to your device, screen, furniture, or pets — arising out of or in connection with the use of the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim or USD $50.

Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device. We may suspend or discontinue the App, in whole or in part, at any time, with or without notice.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. When we do, we'll update the version number and effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in state or federal courts located in the United States.
